Privacy Policy
Effective April 30, 2026
Law Ledgers (“Law Ledgers,” “we,” “us”) is an accounting firm headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. This policy explains what information we collect through lawledgers.com and how we use, share, and protect it. Engaged-client information is governed primarily by your engagement letter and applicable professional-conduct rules; this policy describes the website-side of that picture.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
If you contact us through this website — through the contact form, by email, or by phone — we collect the information you choose to share, which typically includes your name, email address, phone number, firm name, and the substance of your inquiry.
Information collected automatically
Our web host records standard server logs for operational and security purposes. These logs may include your IP address, the date and time of your request, the page you requested, the referring page, and your browser and device type. We do not use this information to build a profile of you.
Cookies and tracking
This site does not currently set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we add analytics or other measurement tools in the future, we will update this policy and clearly disclose what is collected.
2. How we use information
- To respond to your inquiry and provide the information you request.
- To deliver accounting, bookkeeping, trust-accounting, tax, and payroll services to clients who engage us.
- To operate, secure, and improve this website.
- To comply with legal, regulatory, and professional obligations.
- To establish, exercise, or defend legal claims where necessary.
3. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers. Vendors who host our website, deliver our email, or otherwise help us operate the firm, under contracts that limit their use of your information to the services they provide to us.
- Legal requirements. When required by law, court order, subpoena, regulatory request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Law Ledgers, our clients, or others.
- With your consent. Including, for engaged clients, where information must be shared with third parties (such as taxing authorities, payroll processors, or banks) to provide the services you have asked us to perform.
4. Confidentiality of engagements
Once we are engaged, additional confidentiality obligations apply to the information we receive in the course of the engagement. Communications with Law Ledgers are not, by default, protected by attorney-client privilege; however, where we are engaged through counsel for the purpose of providing legal advice (a Kovel arrangement under United States v. Kovel, 296 F.2d 918 (2d Cir. 1961)), the privilege may extend to those communications. Whether a Kovel arrangement applies in any given matter depends on the engagement structure and is governed by the engagement letter.
5. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, consistent with the New York SHIELD Act and other applicable laws. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to or from this website.
6. Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, to comply with our legal, regulatory, and professional retention obligations (which for tax and accounting records can be seven years or more), and to resolve disputes or enforce agreements. When information is no longer needed for these purposes, we will dispose of it securely.
7. Your rights
Subject to applicable law and our retention obligations, you may:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep.
- Withdraw consent for processing that relies on consent.
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to delete personal information (subject to legal exceptions), the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland have additional rights under the GDPR and equivalent laws, including the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email staff@lawledgers.com with the subject line “Privacy request.” We may need to verify your identity before acting on the request.
8. Children’s privacy
This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Third-party links
This website may link to websites operated by third parties, including bar associations, court websites, and resources we cite. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective” date at the top of this page and, where the change is material, take additional steps as required by law to notify you.
